Power · v2.0 Pilot

AI power is control over a consequential dependency.

The AI Power Index studies what an entity can decide or enforce, whether counterparties can replace it, whether leverage produces observable outcomes, and what could weaken that position. It separates power from AI spending, adoption, visibility, and exposure.

The construct

AI power is an entity’s sustained ability to influence access, terms, deployment, or the distribution of value in an AI-relevant market by controlling a dependency that counterparties cannot readily replace or bypass.

Four judgments

Control

What can the entity decide or enforce?

Substitution

How difficult is it to replace or bypass the dependency now?

Realized leverage

Is control producing observable terms, commitments, or economics?

Durability

What supports persistence over the next 24 months?

Where power operates

Compute, Interface, Alignment, and Energy remain the Four Forces. They identify the domain of a control mechanism; they are not four numerical hurdles every company must maximize. Alignment is operationalized here as governance and permission control.

Pilot release status

The current staging release declares 20 company scopes across chips, cloud, model development, distribution, and energy infrastructure. Evidence collection has not yet run, so the profiles abstain. This is a visible boundary, not a neutral score.

The v1 weighted exposure model is retained only as a labeled historical scaffold. v2 does not convert its scores, continue its rank history, or feed its judgments into the legacy Strategic Consequence Engine. AI Power profiles are analytical research, not probabilities, valuations, or investment recommendations.
